Eco Fashion Using Vintage Fabric

Eco fashion uses eco textiles such as organic cotton or bamboo or vintage items. Those fabrics are kinder to the environment as they are grown without pesticides and insecticides. The vintage items reused help save the earth and our water by keeping these vintage items out of the waste sites.

Organic cotton is often known as the natural fiber, conventional cotton uses around 9% of the world’s agrochemical pesticides, about 20% of the world’s insecticides and 8% of the world’s chemical fertilizers. This is because cotton flowers are very prone to attacks from insects forcing conventional cotton growers to use high levels of chemicals and genetically modified seeds. A typical conventional cotton t-shirt uses about 150 grams of very toxic pesticides and insecticides. Keeping these fabrics out of the landfills is a must.

A love of fashion and vintage is used to tackle domestic abuse and to empower women. In Port Talbot, South Wales a company called Material Girls. It uses volunteers from the charity to run this shop and all proceeds are reinvested into the charity.

This charity is Port Talbot and Afan Women’s Aid to provide support for women and children who have been involved with domestic abuse. It was founded in 1979. One thing supported is emergency housing so the women and children can rebuild their lives and move forward. PTAWA offers support services that prevent the cycle of domestic abuse

This charity has used the proceeds from their fashions to operate a safe house and accommodated nearly a thousand women and 1200 of their children. They have a 24 hour service for the community. They also offer services exclusively to aid children impacted by domestic abuse and early intervention for fathers and couples.

PTAWA has created its own social enterprise in order to help them become more sustainable and generate funds to help them provide full support for those affected by domestic abuse. Material Girls was created as a business that takes vintage clothing that they repair and donate.

At Material Girls, they work to generate donations of clothing and accessories that they repair and sell online in their online boutique or on eBay. They also sell at other events. All profits are used to keep running the charity.

Eco fashion also uses upcycled materials such as wood, plastics or leftover fabrics to transform waste into clothes. By using upcycled fabrics has a lesser impact on the environment.

But eco fashion does not only benefit the environment and our health, it also benefits the community. With fair trading practices it enables disadvantaged communities to earn a decent living far away from sweatshops that plague conventional fast fashion. Different schemes/certifications exist around the world to ensure a fairer deal and that no child labor is used.

Eco fashion takes vintage items and material to make runway-ready fashion. It is not plain, earthy and unattractive as eco fashion was once thought to be. Eco fashion follows some runway trends with innovate ways. Eco fashion researches the top trends of the current year and designs fashion items from that.

What makes eco fashion different from conventional clothes is not their style but the fabrics and vintage material used and the way it is manufactured. Eco fashion is handmade, making it one-of-kind, art-to-wear at reasonable prices. In a world of fast, cheap and disposable clothes that may or may not be made in “sweat shops” by under privileged children, eco fashion brings us clothing made from eco textiles under fair trading practices from vintage shops that contribute to good causes and the community.

Twinning Fashion: The New “Hot Thing”

We all know this horror very well: you walk into a dinner party with all your glamorous vibe and confidence, strutting the latest trendy designer pair you got and then all of a sudden, you make an eye contact with a stranger, or worse, your enemy sporting the same exact outfit.

“Oh! You have a twin!”

Yes, my dear friends, that can make you feel like you want to strangle her or yourself.

But here’s the thing. Wearing identical wardrobe is no longer a “what’s not hot” this year. In fact, the New York Fashion Week for 2017 Spring Collection at Monse a week ago proved that matching looks are even better than what we can imagine. Two hot twin models took over the spotlight as they walked side by side wearing off-the-shoulder shirtdresses and pinstriped skirts with only a slight difference in the style (basically, the other model wore an extra wide belt).

Matching looks had been around for quite some time. They are not only limited to twins having to wear the same outfit all the time. If you recall boy bands and girl pop groups in the 90s, they are often seen performing wearing matching looks, so this is not a surprise for millennials. The Olsen sisters had been famous fashionistas that manage to sport matching street style look without being too literally identical. Moreover, it is the same as Veronique Branquinho’s 2015 Spring collection that presented the “how to’s” twin-match outfits in similar tones, but it didn’t get as hype as this year.

Clearly, this year runways are hiring more and more twin models since it appears to play into this modern flux in what is perceived “beautiful.” Each year is a period of experimentation bringing people to the greater and striking world of fashion, seeing new ideas of beauty on the runways which will eventually rev up to the everyday fashionistas as a street style. Soon, twinning fashion may not be seen infrequently anymore.

I am very curious as to why it is only this year that the fashion industry got infatuated with the concept of twinning. Its domination stoked Mulberry’s creative director, Johnny Coca that led him to play with the “twinness,” on an autumn 2016 advertising campaign with only a few tweaks to slightly differentiate the looks. But on the other hand, it is just in time that it gets recognition. The streets should be the next big thing to reveal the results of twinning fashion.

I get it. You are not marching the runway. So, let’s set the New York Fashion Week aside for a bit and get into how you can rock this new trend on the loose. Don’t shy away partaking on this latest trend because there are tons of complementary additions you can add to matching ensembles that can still highlight a distinct look. You can even keep your signature style if you want. A Détacher, Rebecca Minkoff, and Oscar de la Renta are only among those who presented designs that are hinting more ideas to play with your wardrobe. Not bad right?

How Can We Pull Off This Fashion Trend?

I am not writing this entirely to just simply shout out that there’s a new fashion hype going on; big names in the fashion world shared a number of hints about the made or making-over idealism. Here are some of the best tips coming from the gurus in the fashion world. Matching outfits shouldn’t be a conundrum. It should be fun! Greater ideas revealed the styles that stay on the boat. These are the pleated skirts, poplin shirts, and all sorts of unfuzzy pieces like pajama-inspired pants. Stripes stick to the trending spot as well. Let’s get down to the highlights.

Keep It In The Family
That’s a straight out tip and way fun to play around. If your best friend is wearing a pair of blue skinny jeans matched with a sexy off-shoulder top, then wear any of the two. Perhaps, a blue flared belted jeans matched with a tank top. You can also be in the same kind of shoes but just wearing it differently. Wearing similar tones and texture in alterations can be entirely fully styled.

Add Something Extra
What do I mean by this? Each of us has our favorite accessories, whether it’s a hairpiece, a headband, a very eye-catchy bun holder or those really cute and fancy hair draping hair harness and chains. Hats like Fedora and Floppies do work well with twinning fashion. Even as simple as adding a belt if the other person isn’t wearing one, or whatever she isn’t adding to her ensemble, add it to yours! Just like how Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid strut their matching outfits, They can all spice up your ensemble despite resembling another person’s outfit. They are great in drawing attention away from having an almost identical style. Remember, parallel lines don’t meet; it is the same concept you should apply to pull off twinning style.

Let The Print Take Part But Not Take Over!

We don’t necessarily have to be compelled with what should look “alike” because it is more of what is “complementary,” or as simple as they look great together. Simply rank the shades of whatever printed outfit or accessories you have. I am sure the way you break down the colors won’t be too exactly the same as the other person. Use your taste when you do this since matching outfits would always be based on your personality and mood. These are essential keys in using prints even if we aren’t talking about twinning.

Should we be expecting more about this not-so-new but totally on the hype trend? Yes. Since the collaboration of Oscar de la Renta with Monse’s unusual fabrications of everyday styles and reincarnating it in a “mirroring” manner, you don’t even need to be always on the lookout. The streets will be invaded by people wearing twin-inspired fashion and it is a crystal-clear accepted challenge that everyone is pretty much excited to get on.

Factors Affecting Designer Handbag Sales

Let’s ask a question. What are the factors that lead to the demand and supply of designer handbags? Did you know for instance, that the sale of designer bags remained intact even during the recession in 2008? This happened because these bags are mostly bought by affluent people. In a way, this means that luxury handbag sales are less likely to go down by worldwide recession and more by preferences.

Exquisite handbags have been a growing trend for a long time. But other than the core economics, sales of exquisite bags fluctuate due to several market oriented factors and consumer’s behavioral shifts.

Let us take a look at a few of these factors.

  • Fast Forward Fashion: Today, fashion trends come and go in a matter of days. There are new luxury bag styles every season. In many ways, globalization has hurried the trending cycle of lifestyle products even more. Changing fashion trends in commodities like luxury bags affect sales considerably.
  • Consumer’s tastes and preferences: Sales of any commodity is by large dependent on the tastes and preferences of the target consumers. The handbag has to be unique for it to be considered by the ultra-rich.
  • Microeconomics behind raw materials: The raw fabrics out of which handbags are made, have a distinctive color, texture and feel. It is those basic ingredients that sparks the buyer’s interest. There is also a change in demand of these materials while a buyer is choosing a designer bag. That change reflects in the overall sales of the product.
  • Pricing: Pricing of a product plays a very crucial and strategic role in creating demand as well as generating sales. So is the case with luxury bags. Often, pricing is used as a tool to target different income class of the society. Over pricing can adversely affect sales in the lower-income groups. Under priced products can be tagged as not exclusive enough by the higher income consumers. Designer houses are looking to concentrate on the higher middle class and rich people – so do not expect the price of these bags to come down. There are some variations and those are caused by the increased number of shoppers who are buying products from wholesale designer handbag websites. These sites market and sell wholesale designer handbags at discounted prices.
  • Availability: If supply is insufficient to meet the demand of a particular product, it is bound to pull the sales down. The availability of luxury handbags is a very important factor to find the best buy. Consumers tend to pick a substitute product in case of unavailability.

The above factors are important while the buyer plans and seeks execution of certain price targets in terms of exquisite handbags.

The History and Market of Saltwater Sandals

Saltwater sandals are fast becoming a popular kind of footwear. They are sold mostly in southern and western markets in the United States. These sandals are made from specially-treated natural leather evident in their “interlink” strap and adjustable buckle straps around the ankle.

The birth of saltwater sandals was in the early 1940s, posing as a good alternative to the traditional leather sandals worn by kids. This is due to the leather shortage during the World War II. They resolved this shortage by making children’s sandals out of scrap leather from leather boot-making factories. Although originally conceptualized and manufactured by the Hoy Shoe Company in St. Louis, Missouri, there are also saltwater sandals made in China.

The Hoy Shoe Company

The original and classic designs of saltwater sandals by the Hoy Shoe Company are double stitched and molded in vulcanized rubber. These are featured with adaptable straps for narrow to wide fittings, and to accommodate the sizes of infants to pre-teens.

The Trending Market

For over 60 years now, it remain a summer fixture in children’s footwear. The more recent design is Hoy Shoe Company’s Sun-San Saltwater Sandals for women. New York Magazine’s fashion editor, Sarah Bernard, even made a comment last November 2, 2007 about it. She criticized saltwater sandals as an “Emerging Ugly Shoe Trend for 2008” while comparing it with Ugg boots and Crocs.

Amidst the criticisms, it remain as one of the exceedingly popular modern sandals made from highly durable materials. They do not wear and tear easily and they have proven themselves in terms of quality. It is a bestseller among parents. In fact, they are no longer confined to the southern and western markets of the US. They are now globally supplied because of the gross demands of customers.

Sandal are not only comprised of natural leather but their buckles are made from rustproof metal and brass material. They are sold in various colors like white, navy, brown, orange and pink, red, yellow as well as fuchsia, black and green.

The latest addition to it genre is the new Shark 11 Saltwater Sandal in Crazy Horse Color. Its design is like that of a fisherman’s made from durable cowhide. It has a molded EVA sole with long lasting thread action by the bottom section of the sandal as well as an insole cushion. It has an extra fabric and a comfortable strap molded in its back section to reduce sweating and unpleasant odors. It has sizes for pre-teens, toddlers and infants.

Infant sizes are from 3 and up, depending on the built; and up to size 13 for pre-teens. For adults, women would range from size 5 and up.

Here are some of the in-demand saltwater sandals for kids in the market:

Ladies Fuchsia Saltwater Sandals

This saltwater sandal is great to wear on beach and pool outings. It has a durable brass buckle and an adjustable strap. It has interlocking straps that easily adjusts to the foot. The price of this saltwater sandal is $34.95.

Unisex Tan Saltwater Sandals

This saltwater sandal is made from all-original tan leather. It is best for summer and beach activities. It has a brass buckle that enables easy adjustments for the straps. Its interlocking straps conveniently adjust to the foot. It has vulcanized rubber soles and double stitching to ensure long lasting quality. It is good for both dry and wet conditions because it is coated with water-resistant sealants. The price of this saltwater sandal is $24.95.

Ladies Black Saltwater Sandals

This saltwater sandal is made from black leather and it has 1 buckle ankle strap. The price of this saltwater sandal is $15.99.

Tips on Saltwater Sandals

When using a pair of new saltwater sandals, it is best to loosen it up, particularly with the straps. You can do this by placing your thumbs inside its straps and pull them out towards the sides. This way, the interlocking leather straps are stretched. After this, hold your sandal in your palms and start squeezing the sides together, cupping the inside section of the sandal. This way, the straps are flexed and pre-stretched.

Saltwater sandals only seem too tight when it’s new. It may need a short “break-in” period. After some time, it will conform to your foot.

A Look Back At Fashionable Kid’s Clothing Of The 60’s, 70’s and 80’s

Fashionable kid’s clothing has changed through the years. Fashionable kid’s clothing reflects what is fashionable in adult clothing at the time. There have been a lot of changes that took place in the clothing styles of fashionable kid’s clothing.

Fashionable kids clothing in the 60’s included very short dresses on children until they reached their middle school years. Little girls wore dresses that just barely covered their underwear during these years. Today most little girls wear dresses that come to somewhere around their knees.

Little boys wore denim jeans and white tee-shirts during the 60’s. The bottom of the trousers was to be rolled up to create a cuff and the tee-shirt needed to be white with a rounded collar. They generally wore black canvas tennis shoes and black belts with this ensemble. Even though they had on tee-shirts they tucked the shirt into the trousers so the belt would show.

Little girl’s wore black and white saddle oxfords for shoes in the 60’s. They also wore Mary Jane style shoes that had a strap that reached over the arch of their foot and buckled on the side. They were black shoes in the fall and winter months of the year and white shoes in the spring and summer months of the year.

In the 70’s most children did not change their style of dress much even though the hippie look was becoming popular. It was not popular for small children to wear bell bottom jeans or tie-dyed shirts. The little girl dresses remained shorts and they wore matching bloomers under the dresses so that their undergarments were not seen.

Until the 80’s all little girls wore a tee-shirt that had no sleeves and their underwear under all outfits. These tee-shirts were the first camisoles that girls wore and were designed to keep you from seeing their skin when their shirts were thin.

The 80’s was a time when most girls gave up dresses entirely. They wore pants, brightly colored leg warmers, shirts that were over-sized, and a wide variety of foot wear. Tight leggings and over-sized shirts were the fashion rage, and almost every girl was trying to make their hair stand out as much as possible. They teased their hair, sprayed it with hair spray, and held it in place with wild colored headbands. Satin jackets were very fashionable as were really short shorts.

Fashionable kid’s clothing of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s, are what children wear for Halloween costumes today.

Hippie Headbands: A Hippie Fashion Trend

The 1960’s gave rise to a hippie subculture which was originally a youth movement throughout the US. Not only did it spread to other countries, but it has had resurgence in recent years for young and old alike. Such shows as That 70s Show are no doubt partially responsible, but the fashion industry has taken note, and we are seeing hippie headbands, and fashion everywhere these days.

Both men and women in the hippie movement wore jeans and maintained long hair, wore sandals or went barefoot. Men frequently grew beards and women refused to wear makeup and bras. They wore brightly colored clothes in unusual styles which included bell bottom jeans, vests, tie dyed clothes, dashikis, peasant skirts and blouses, and those famous hippie headbands which they adopted from the Native Americans. Additionally they adopted styles from Asian, Indian, African and Latin American cultures.

Hippies were known for wearing handmade clothing because their beliefs included defying corporate culture. Because of this they not only learned to make clothes; they bought them from flea markets and second hand shops.

Many may not know that the hippie scene actually rose from the beatnik scene of the 1950s. The ideologies were originally the same as well as the values.

Hippie fashions and values completely changed our culture, influencing music, television, literature and the arts as well as morals and religious beliefs. As you might imagine, tons of hippie clothes, ideals and other aspects of hippie culture have become part of our mainstream culture today. From church movements to cultural diversity, the concepts have been accepted more and more over the last several decades.

The hippie music festivals is only one of the many celebratory ways we embrace the effects of the hippie culture in modern times.

At these festivals hippie symbols and iconography are everywhere including the peace sign which can be seen on peace clothing, tie dye clothing, hippie jewelry, other forms of hippie fashion, and even the occasional peace sign tattoos.

Girls are known to wear gypsy skirts, which are peasant skirts, or broomstick skirts, often tie dyed and hippie dresses of similar fashion. Hippie tapestries are often draped or cut and sewn into dashikis or dresses as well.

In particular there were a myriad designs of hippie headbands. These bohemian headbands were often braided out of leather or fabric of most any type. The chic headbands of the 1980s were a throwback to them, but the 60s headbands were not typically elastic like those of the 1980s. The fashion trend included the use of bandanas or a simple cord tied around the head in various styles. These boho headband accessories didn’t have to match an outfit in particular, and therefore often had personal meaning or were worn as either a statement or to commemorate something in many instances.

The sight of the hippie headband was a sure sign in the 60s that a hippie was in your presence. This often brought derision from those who withstood the morals of the hippie movement. Their hippie clothes and head wraps were then seen as the costumes of foolish youngsters. Now people want to know where they can find a hippie store!

The hippie bands at the festivals wear clothes and headbands often made more modern with some type of new fashion flair. The popular piercings add a new twist to the hippie look, as well as dreadlocks often sported by neo-hippies these days.

Fashion changes, but hippie headbands, fashion, clothes and music are here to stay!
